Ralph Rucci to be Honored at SCAD

Ralph Rucci’s upcoming exhibit at the ALT Gallery in the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) Museum of Art in Savannah coincides with the couturier receiving SCAD’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the university’s annual fashion show. The award will be presented by SCAD President Paula Wallace and Vogue contributing editor André Leon Talley.

Rucci is the latest addition to the long list of fashion icons who have received this award, including Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Tom Ford, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, John Galliano, Isabel and Ruben Toledo and, most recently, Manolo Blahnik. Much like past honorees, this isn’t the first time Rucci is being honored in a musueum; his work has been featured in three solo shows. He is also the subject of a book, “Ralph Rucci: The Art of Weightlessness,” a documentary film by David Boatman, titled Ralph Rucci: A Designer and His House, and in 2008 he was honored with the National Design Award in fashion awarded by the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum. In October 2011, his plaque on the “Fashion Walk of Fame” was unveiled and he is also the subject of a newly released film and book.
